Something To Think About

From time to time, everyone should take a little break from our daily routines and seek a little “R & R.” I know this because while visiting Gatlinburg this past week, Melanie and I did a time-share tour and found that every sales person there confirmed that vacations are very important. ? Yet, not one of them mentioned the rest spoken of in the Gospel of Matthew.

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My burden upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30).”

It is true that our bodies need a proper amount of sleep and that it is healthy for us mentally to take time away from the daily grind. However, until you discover the rest found in Jesus, no amount of vacations will supply what you need. The rest spoken of in Matthew is not really about time-off or a vacation – temporary times of renewal. Rather, the rest Jesus spoke of is everlasting. It’s about satisfaction, fulfillment and being at peace.

Do you need a vacation? Take one.

Do you need rest for your souls? Turn to Jesus and experience Matthew 11:28-30 for yourself.
